Ok now cut all the way though the bark all the way around the twig about six inches from your mouth piece. Now you want to loosten the bark from the stick without damaging the bark. Slipping the bark can be a little bit tricky but with just a little practice it will come easily. After you have cut all the way around tap on the bark with something blunt like the butt end of your knife. The trick is to tap hard enough to loosen the bark but not so hard that it cracks the bark. Tap up and down on every part of the bark several times then with a twisting motion try to twist the bark off of the twig. Careful now don't crack the bark! In the example on the left the bark was cracked and I had to start over with a fresh twig. If it does not come off easy go back and tap all around it some more keep on tapping and twisting until the bark slips off just as clean as a whistle. Your whistle is almost done now! See the examples on the left and below.
