Heather Mae Bonham was born on January 13, 1991, it was the happiest day of our lives. To see this beautiful baby girl that we had wanted and longed for finally arrive into our lives. Heather weighed in at 8 LBS. 1 OZ and we were told that she was perfect. Well our world came crashing all around us the very next day when this miricle was diagnosed with a very serious Congenital Heart Defect known as "Tetrology of Fallot". Me and my husband had never heard about CHD before that day, and were not aware of how many children are born each and every day with some sort of CHD. We were told that Heather's defect could be corrected with one surgery. Well, as it has turned out Heather has had 5 Open Heart Surgeries so far with more expected down the road. Her 5th surgery was performed at UCLA Medical Center by her wonderful gaurdian angel (as I like to refer to him) Dr. Hillel Laks, at that time Heather had her Pulmonary Valve Replaced and a Pacemaker Implanted. Heather has a very strong will to live and she loves life and all it has to offer, and I know that she will live it to the fullest. With all the complication and all that Heather has endured this why I have the highest of respect for her and why I decided to have this page made for her. To look at Heather you would not believe that she could possible have heart problems, except for the fact that her scar is very high and she is very skinny, but she runs and plays just like all the kids in her class. Heather is now in third grade and she loves school, and even more so now that her baby sister Danielle has started Kindergarten at her school. Heather is now in 3rd grade and doing very well. She went to camp this year "Camp Del Corazon", a camp for kids with CHD, she meet alot of kids that also live day to day with CHD and she learned that she is not alone... If there is one thing I really want her to know, it is that her Mommy and Daddy and Sissy love her more then anything is this world, and we have the highest respect for her.. |
